Hear, hear! I have a poster in my classroom that reads, "Winners make the grade. Whiners make excuses." My sentiment is captured by the blue-collar comic whose catch-phrase is "Get 'er done!"I also like a saying I once heard, "No one cares why you didn't do what you said you were going to do."
I sorely hope a student didn't actually try to use that excuse.But I do get what you're saying.Once I had an eighth grader (slacker extraordinaire) flunk his final pretty badly. And the principal wanted me to make sure he passed the class! I didn't give it another thought. If you don't teach kids how to deal with consequences early on, they never will.
